Spring is Here - Let's Get that Vitamin D3!

What is Vitamin D and why is it Important?

Vitamin D is one of the most important nutrients for our bodies. Vitamin D affects every organ and tissue in the body and is essential for healthy bones, teeth, immunity and more.

Benefits of Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps us to sleep at night. It helps with concentration, mood, anxiety, depression, and memory. Hair is dependent on Vitamin D as it works as a potent, natural anti-inflammatory agent. Vitamin D is great for sinuses as it protects against viruses coming though the nose. Every part of the immune system uses Vitamin D and it helps with keeping viruses at bay. Vitamin D is good for the eyes, thyroid, and other auto immune diseases in which the body attacks itself. Vitamin D is good for teeth as it regulates the calcium that goes into the bone. Vitamin D helps to fight against bone deformity, such as hunched backs, bowed legs, curved spines, over and under bites, crooked and missing teeth. Vitamin K2 works well with Vitamin D and is essential for the strength of teeth and bones. Vitamin D is important for lungs and is great for people with lung inflammation issues, such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia and more. Vitamin D is essential to fight against viruses such as COPD and cancer.

Vitamin D is helpful for muscles and works with calcium and magnesium to prevent cramps after a hard workout. Vitamin D is important for the adrenal glands and pancreas. Vitamin D is good for the heart as it helps to keep inflammation low in the coronary arteries. Vitamin D is necessary for those suffering from high blood pressure. Vitamin D is essential for insulin resistance as it helps insulin absorb other needed nutrients. It fights against kidney stones as it works against inflammation in the gut. Vitamin D is good for the prostate, ovaries, stiffness, pain, inflammation, arthritis and bone health. Vitamin D is also great for lower back pain.

As you can see, Vitamin D3 is essential to every organ in the body and is needed for good health.

What Foods are High in Vitamin D3 and What Prevents Absorption?

Salmon, sardines, eggs, tuna, milk, mushrooms, and cod liver oil are foods providing Vitamin D3. But, can we get enough Vitamin D from these foods? We are probably not getting our daily necessary dose of Vitamin D3 from foods unless we are eating them in very high quantities. Many of the foods and our lifestyles deplete the amount of Vitamin D our bodies absorb. Stress, sugar, insulin resistance, inflammation, poor general health, age and darker skin also affect the amount of Vitamin D our bodies can absorb.

What is one of the Best Ways to get Enough Vitamin D3?

One of the best ways to get Vitamin D3 is to go out into the sunshine. Kids should play outside in the sun. We should all should consider sitting/walking/running/playing in the sunshine because the sun is the absolute best provider of Vitamin D3. If you're taking supplements, be sure to look for ones that include Vitamin K2 with the Vitamin D3.  I am not a doctor, but I take at least 5000 IU of Vitamin D3 +K2 daily. When it's a sunny day, I like to spend an hour or two walking in the sun at least five days a week. Those doses of Vitamin D3 provided me relief from chronic insomnia after suffering with it for over 20+ years.  I can finally sleep without taking a sleep aid.

You may be experiencing or have experienced one of the issues listed above.  Have you considered incorporating Vitamin D3 + K2 supplements and/or basking in sunshine into your daily routine?

Let's take the first step together towards better health.
